BASIC Enhancements?

There are some incompatibilities between Absoft and Hisoft Dom, but nothing major. In some cases you might have to make some changes to Sub programs to make them work right. The command LIBRARY must appear before a DECLARE FUNCTION statement when using the system libraries, while in Absoft it doesn't matter. The commands COMMON and RESUME NEXT are not implemented in the current version. There are a few others that I can't think of right now, and many commands I haven't tested so there might be other imcompatibilites that I just haven't caught. Once you start using Hisoft Basic and become aware of its little quirks, then its not too difficult to make the corrections so it will compile. I'm sure that when you get Hisoft Basic and start compiling programs you are going to get some compile errors. The thing to do first when you get the package is read the manual from front to back. Many of the differences are explained in the manual but it just takes a little digging to bring them out. Ather important item that must be stressed, is if you get a compile error, do not continue the compilation. Stop right there and go to your first compile error and fix it first. If you don't, then that 1 error can cause massive compile errors if you try to continue and you will be chasing errors that really do not exist. So once you come to your first error, fix the line that is causing the error and then try compiling it again. If you get another error on the same line, then your fix didn't work so go back and try again. Once you get that line corrected, and you get a compile error in a different line further on in the program, then get that one corrected, etc. At the current time, Hisoft Basic doesn't support Submenus or CommandKey's. But maybe if enough of us screamed at George at Michtron, then maybe he would pass along our wish list to Hisoft 8*). There is a product called EXTEND which I have that allows you to add many Intuition functions to Basic like Submenu's, CommandKey's, Requesters, Gadgets, etc. I just don't care for the author's redistribution policy for the extend.library. He requires a $100 fee to have the right to distribute the library, and that is even for Public domain or shareware programs! Can you believe that #$%^. So up his gazoo as far as I'm concerned.
