I just downloaded 'newrle.exe' and a rle picture. It seems to work. What
exactly is RLE and what is the resolutions of the pictures. The one I
downloaded 'venus.rle' seems to be two-color lo-res. Thanks, Stephen A
RLE is a black and white format for storing images. It has two basic
resolutions: 256 x 192, and 128 x 192. It's been around for a long while,
and there are viewers for just about any machine.
Recently, it's been noted that some RLE encoders do things which are not
recommended by the "unofficial" RLE spec. (There is no "official" RLE
spec. Anywhere.) Thus, some RLE decoders don't always handle all RLE
images. NEWRLE.EXE is one of these, unfortunately. So don't be surprised
if you run into RLE images you can't view.
