Beth, Boot your 500 with a disk that you know isn't infected. Go through all your bootable disks with a virus detection utility that can catch the virus on the disk, rather than in the machine. If VIRUSOFF will do that, great. If not, I'd recommend VIRUSX, which you'll find on this forum. Separate the good ones from the infected ones. Take the infected ones and use the INSTALL command to install a new boot block. For example INSTALL DF1: will install a new boot block on the disk in DF1:. That will take care of any boot block viruses that may be on those disks. You'll have to be careful doing this with some games that use non-standard boot blocks, but if the game boots up with that familiar blue screen, then you're okay. Hope that helps, Robert

Beth, I had that little bugger too, along time ago. If you have VirusX4.0 you can kill the SCA Virus on both your Computer and all your disks. The SCA Virus if memory serves me correctly is a bootblock virus and is written to any disk that is inserted. So if you have the SCA virus I beat you have a few disk infected. I believe VirusX4.0 is in Lib 1 of Amigatech so dl that and commence virus killing. MikeM:) P.S. There is a so called version of VirusX4.4 out there. WARNING this is a fake version. Beth, Run the install program from your c: directory on all infected disks. Turn off your machine to clear it from memory, and be careful to boot ONLY from clean disks that are write-protected. Put VirusX4.0 in your startup sequence and run 'Install' on every disk it questions until you have all of them clean. The SCA virus does not survive a reboot if you turn off the machine; it can survive a warm reboot. This is actually one of the easier viruses to get rid of – its main trouble being that if it attacks your protected game disks, it overwrites the bootblock where protection usually is located, and then your game does not work any more. Do not run INSTALL on copy-protected disks, because it will also break them. ……Betty
