RE Streamline:
I don't know whats best, but I've learned what can work…. I'm using a 300
dpi scanner with 16 grey scale (?) scanner (canon) and if Fairbairn is
reading this I would like a 256 scale!!!! I'm using Macscan with it, and
the solution for quality is the old trick of inputting big. Often I'll blow
something up on a photocopier 200% and then another 200%. Most stuff is ok
at 100%, some need the blowups, and occasionally I'll still have to open it
up in Illustrator and tweak it. Recently i redid the nameplate of our
newspaper using this technique. After the scarey first glance, it probably
took about 40 minutes to fix the type so the typesetters couldn't tell the
difference between their version and my Illus version, complete with
separations. The bottom line is Streamline may not always be perfect, but
it's real close, and financially worth the effort to fix.
