#Help on buying printer

Can anyone reccomend a good dot matrix printer that has good text output
along with good graphics. I 'am looking for a 24 pin printer that could
also print in color. I have heard good things about the Star xb series and
wonder if anybody could add to this.

Judd,
The best printer for color output is the HP PaintJet. Though not a
ribbon dot-matrix printer, the HP has superb color output for the price. If
you qualify for an educational discount, then the price will be very
attractive because HP currently has a rebate program going which may
include the PaintJet. List is $1,395, mail order prices are $895. HP's
price is around $795 before any rebate if PaintJet qualifies for rebate.

What are the requirements for the educational discount? My wife is a
student at Pratt here in NYC going for a degree in interior design. What
is the bottom line price after educational discount? How does one get it,
if one qualifies?

Obviously, such a printer would be very helpful for design work.

From what I understand of the program, your wife qualifies for the
educational discount. You can get further information online from the CBM
Newsletter (go cbmnews). There are two press releases there on the
discount program.

Judd,
I use the NEC P5200 and love it. 24 pin, 3 proportional and 3
non-proportional letter quality typefaces built in (besides draft), several
sizes of each of those available, fast, and does 360 x 360 graphics. Color
module costs extra.
