Is there anyone out there who uses TeX for typography?
There must be. Who are you? Where are you? What do you
do? Is there enough interest for a forum?
All manuals for our hardware and software products are typeset in TeX using
AmigaTeX by Radical Eye Software. This implementation, I am told, is one of
the better TeX implementations on any computer. Not having used any other
TeX, I cannot comment on this opinion (except to say that AmigaTeX *is* a
dream to use).
welcome to our forum Perry. For the benefit of any amiga users here who may
not know Perry is the author of CYGNUSED for the amiga. His company ASDG
makes both sotware and hardware for the Amiga computer system. Included in
this are multi-serial boards, scanning software for use on Sharp color
scanners and RAM cards.
TeX is VERY popular in the scientific, especially the mathematical
community. At the Caltech math dept. we consciously decided not to use it
after observing that in many places the result of switching to TeX was that
faculty typed their own papers. So we use a WYSIWYG scientific word
processor with awful looking fonts instead. But we are trying to make sure
one secretary is TeX-literate because occasionally we are asked to provide
things like abstracts for conference programs in TeX format. There are
also a few journals that will accept TeX manuscripts which saves one
proof-reading.
OTOH, I've not seen many mathematicians on CIS.
