#A2500 Questions

I own an amiga 500 system and unfortunatly, I have'nt been able to get
much info on the A2500 from any of the magazines that I have (Not that I
have very many…). Anyway, I plan to upgrade to an A2500 or A2000 in
about 2-3 weeks and I would apreciate it if someone out there would please
answer these questions on the A2500.
1. Is it simply a A2000 with a A2630, a hard disk, and controller card
or is it different? And is the hard disk/card optional?
2. If the hard disk/card are not optional then:
A. What is the name of the controller-card? (A2090?)
B. Can I mount a hard drive directly on the controller?
C. Can I attach my supra 30mg drive to the controller?
D. Can the controller accept any SCSI device, such as a the syquest?
3. Does it come with a floating-point math co-processor?
4. What is the limit of RAM on the A2500 and how much memory does it come
with?
5. Does it come with any of the new enhanced chips?
6. What version of Workbench and Kickstart does it have?
7. How many slots does it have?

The 2500/30 is simply an A2000 with the A2091 controller, a 40MB hard
drive (mounted on the drive), and the A2630 accelerator. The 2091 has
sockets for up to 2MB of ram. The 2630 is a 25MHz 68030 and 25MHz 68882
with 2MB of 32bit RAM on board. This makes a total of 3MB of ram.
You should be able to mount your supra hard drive no problem, but
you'll need a SCSI cable. The 2091 (assuming it's the same as the 2090A)
has an expander out the back so you can hook it up. I don't know about the
Syquest. You might try asking GVP, although that might be a SLIGHTLY biased
source! 8^>
The 2500 has the same memory limit as all Amigas: 9MB of
autoconfiguring RAM. More can be added, but I think you've got to play
tricks.
It comes with the latest chips out: the new agnus and 1.3.
Since it IS the same as the 2000, it has the same number of slots,
minus the processor slot and one normal slot (for the 2091).

I know the answers to many, but not all, of your questions. I have a
2500/030 with AT bridgeboard, but have had it for only a short time.
The 2500/030 is an A2000 with the 2630 card, a 2091 controller, and a 40M
Quantum drive. If you buy the 2500, you will get the drive and card, but
many dealers will let you exchange parts of it at the time of purchase – a
different size drive, or some such.
The Quantum drive CAN be mounted on the 2091, and there are also sockets
for an extra 2M of 16-bit memory on the 2091. In my case, the drive came
mounted in the df1: bay, but many are mounting the drives on the card. The
card is SCSI, so you can attach several (up to seven, I believe) more SCSI
drives to the card. I cannot say for sure about the removable media
drives, but have been told that the 2091 does not support them. I don't
know whether this means they don't work at all, or they merely require a
diskchange command when you change the disk.
My board came with the math chip – I don't recall for sure which one,
though. It came with the new Agnus, but not (so far as I know) with the new
Denise. Certainly not with 1.4 ROM, since that is not yet finished.
THe VERSION command gets: Kickstart version 34.5. Workbench version 34.28
The number of slots is exactly the same as in a 2000.
