Gary, you need to either upgrade by mail through your previous dealer or better yet, find a dealer in your area that can/will support you (can't upgrade through Autodesk directly). For the names of some local dealers, call 800-445-5415. =SM=

AEC NEW RELEASE
Message #22177
MY NAME IS GARY SAMMONS AND I PURCHASED AEC SN #01-224067 FROM ENTRE COMPUTER IN LAFAYETTE, IN. I WOULD LIKE TO UPDATE MY PROGRAM TO THE NEW RELEASE 9.0–2.0. CAN I DO THIS DIRECTLY THROUGH ADESK? SINCE I NOW LIVE IN CONNECTICUT.
OK. I already saw your messages to Dave Sly.
Cliff: All much appreciated. I have my own reasons for wishing ACAD/AEC to be the best. Please see my messages to Dave Sly, #21929 & 21931. I think I can safely say that, of all the packages I have seen, if ACAD and ARRIS had the best of each, the…
Well. thanks for the input. Some of the things you highlighted (layers for instance), are ACAD enhancements and is something well worth our thinking about. I don't think it fits in well with freeze as Raymond suggested, but maybe a new category. Anyway, we are well aware of features in…
ACAD/AEC

Cliff: P.S. ARRIS did not have 'live' text on screen. Bad idea. ARRIS is DEFINITELY slower than ACAD on comparable hardware, although its features might make the drawing time faster for Architect. I couldn't drive it home to take my baby out on Saturday night, either. Craig. .
Dave: P.S. The 386 did have 2M of extra memory without 3d and 4M for the 3d modeling. It also had a 40M hard disk. But then, mine has those things to make ACAD do what I want it to do also. If anyone wants to network ACAD, I don't…
Dave: . .I viewed the ARRIS package on a 386 pc. Nothing special about it. The Xenix is SCO Xenix and costs $695 retail. I understand what you are saying about product support. If it weren't for this forum, the capabilities of the local ACAD dealers would have left me…
Craig, That feature of being able to display and reference a layer without editing it is what freeze should be doing. I agree it is a great feature and AutoCAD should look into it. Regards, Ray Brandes — Brandes Design — .
Craig, I noticed your message a while back about trying to compare ARRIS to Autocad. I work for a company that develops third party engineering utilities for CAD. We are not architects and we sell no computer products except what we write. We are an Authorized developer for both Autocad…
.All of the work can be done from screen menus. Great for a 19" monitor, probably not useable on a 12". Some menus were hard to read even on the 19". . .3d package left ACAD in the dust. It is impressive to Architects, until they try to get a…
Cliff: No, I haven't seen it yet. What would I have to do to be able to see it? I haven't seen any fliers, etc. either, although I think I recall seeing something on the Forum about a release date. Is this going to be a free update or is…
Well, as I said in the last message, you call out some good points, and make some {_observations about some fundamental issues we have been struggling with. As in most cases, there are two sides to each story. Anyway, thanks for the good words, and keep in touch. Have you…

Message #21798
Cliff: . I don't think anyone on this forum could accuse me of not being an avid ACAD supporter. I can assure you my response to my partner was very much in line with your comments. I would simply like to point out that it was observed by a potential…

Well, well, well! Read Bob Hartman's article about architectural organization of the layers using the CSI format. After reading the article in Cadalyst, thinking about what you wrote and looking at the situation, I now believe that it can work. OK, so you're ahead of me!
Rusty — Oh. Sure. In fact, some sort of translation table capability makes sense with AEC, doesn't it? — Brad ..

Brad: What I mean't was that an AEC user could translate his AEC layers into a consultant's "standard" for the consultant to use, or "translate" imported drawings into the AEC standard for use in AEC. Rusty, New Riders Publishing
Gregg — Thanks for the comments on AutoShade. I'm sure they'll be passed along to Product Management. Gee, I'd love to read the article, only we don't have the March issue of CADalyst here in the office. I'll certainly look for it as soon as I receive a copy. —…
I agree. Autodesk folks are sensitive to the speed question, though, because for a while AutoCAD had the image of being powerful but ponderously slow. Now I rarely hear that criticism, thanks to hardware improvements and code refinements. .. Let's encourage Autodesk programmer's to go for the feature's that add…
There is a bran new forum on CI$ for CD-Rom. Just type "go cdrom" and yu will be there. CD-I is being discussed all the time on that forum. …..Mark
#Laser Video Discs?
Message #116283
Gentle people, (I only recently subscribed to CompuServe, so forgive me if these topics have come up in the past.) Does anyone know of any Amiga software to control Laser Video Discs? (Surely I can't be the only one who saw the beautiful match of Amiga with Genlock and CAV.)…
Nick, I assume you de-arc'd the file? If not, it needs to be de-ARC'd with ARC whihc can be found in DL4 as ARC.EXE. If thats not the case, are you using the Aegis anim player showanim? You can tell by typing SHOWANIM, or whatever the file is called, in…

Oi! I recently redownloaded Car.arc (DL16) which would not run for me the first d/l. I'm still having problems. A1000, 2Meg. I get the error message (from SHOWANIM) "Illegal op value for delta mode"! Any suggestions? I do see 1 screen of a road, disappearing off into the horizon, then…

Brad, In the March 1988 issue of CADalyst, Bob Hartman has an article entitled "Escape From The Labryinth." I would like to hear your's and others at Adesk's opinion of his proposal. This article may serve as a start to stimulate something. Thanks, Gregg By the way I would prefer…
