Don't know if your machine has the ability to do so, but try switching to the slowest speed it has (mine can go down to 8Mhz). If it works at 8Mhz, then it is most likely a slow port/modem.. connie

Some of the earlier 16550 chips, for example those built into early PS/2 mach ines, are known to have bugs. A current, bug free one is the NS 16550 AFN. There are others as well.

"Serial Input Error / Line Status Register LSR 02" error indicates something is hogging interrupts, such as a poorly written BIOS hard disk driver. Possible solutions are discussed in the manual "Error Messages" chapter under "Serial Input Error".
