#PageStream Follies
Message #38475
Soft-Logik corporation takes the prize for having more guts than any other Amiga publisher for PageStream 2.1. This software is NON-functional. They are not first, and probably won't be the last to write non-functioning code and steal the hard earned money of Amiga owners in the process-but the real icing…
Mike, I've been trying to use NComm. When trying to do a DL using Ymodem (I didn't even know it had Zmodem support-nothing in the menus that I saw) the window opens up and every few seconds it sends data-just gets no reply. Barry
Thanks, Jim. I'll give it a try. Barry
#Term programs
Message #118690
Does anyone know if there is a _functioning_, _complete_ term program that allows either 1K X-modem file transfer or Y or Z modem file transfers in any of the DLs? (It would also be an _enormous_ help if it didn't require an hour to set up and the transfer of…
Mike, Did you ever find out anything about the TX81-Z protocol? Please see messages 17449, and 17462. Thanks. Barry
Betty I have one more question about Divine Intervention for you. Can you do a successful search of book 15 (Ezra) of the Old Testament? I've extracted it several times from the Lharc file, and even extracted the entire Divine-OT3: a couple of times, but whenever I try a search…
Seems to be (my guess, anyhow) an error in the actual protocol. The firs few times I tried it, I ended up with a "device not responding" message after a few seconds-turns out it wasn't hooked up correctly! One of my MIDI cables was unplugged. Now, I instantly get a…
Mike, One of the minor problems I've had with Music-X is the protocol for the TX81Z included with the unit. Whenever I try to use it I end up with a "Protocol Error". Is there an update? Preferably one that works. I've looked at the protocol standards, from Yamaha, and…

FZ-1/SampleVision
Message #34779
Angel, Did you get your system running yet? I was over in the MIDI forum and something occured to me, in all your descriptions of your system, you never mentioned the hard drive. A hard drive is required to use Sample Vision. Or, perhaps if you have one, it's not…
Thanks, Mike. Needless to say, sooner would be better than later. Currently I know of one other program that has the same feature, but I've tried the demo and don't like it. I'd much rather stay with Music-X, but playback to SMPTE isn't much good without record to SMPTE. Barry
One is the Anatek pocket merge, the other the Midiman Syncman, same problem with both. Barry
Yes, I'm using MTC (generated from SMPTE) to drive M-X. I've used it for some time now using it to drop in sound effects for films. However, I've always used the sequence editor to manually type in the code numbers (from the window dub). Just hooked it up as a…
Much easier than that (I finally found it in the manual, I knew something this basic wouldn't be overlooked), highlight the offending notes, then hold down the shift button and use the right cursor key to shorten themmaking sure "snap" is off. Barry
I found a _big_ bug in Music-X 1.03 that I hope you'll be able to tell me is already fixed in V.1.04. When using MIDI Time Code as the clock source, and using (or should I say trying to use a keyboard to input notes), via a MIDI merger, Music-X…
Mark, What version are you using? V. 1.00 has a bug and does not respond to the song pointer. V. 1.03, the version I'm currently using does respond to SPP. As I understand it, the current version is 1.04 with 1.1 to be released soon. When I had the SPP…
Yes, the note is held down so long that it almost runs into the next note, and yes, it does depend on the sound-on a drum it would be no problem-with an organ, instead of four quarter notes, it sounds like one whole note on a sick organ.

#Music-X
Message #16609
I'm having a small problem using Music-X files I've converted from SMUS files. The problem is spacing between notes. If for instance, there are four quarter notes, all the same note, MusicX plays them so close together it sounds almost like one whole note. What I need to do is…
I'm unsure of the V. of WP, but it's an Seikosha SP 1000AS printer. There are no printer codes in the document. Barry P.S. Actually, it's WP 4.1, but I bet you knew that already, what you probably want is the release date, which I don't know.
Melissa, I'm not sure if I could be more specific, editing via time code events (numbers) is about as plain as it gets. However, I'd like to see the demo version of Bars&Pipes. Problem, I can't find it in the DL's. I've looked in DL1 and DL8 under the keywords…
Word Perfect
Message #30205
I'm having a slight problem with Word Perfect. When I print a document, after it's finished, instead of giving a form feed, the printer goes off line. This is odd, as it's always given a form feed before. I've checked my printer definitions and they seem the same as they've…

DMCS Native File?
Message #30181
Melissa, I've read a couple of strings here about Bars&Pipes. Does it offer MTC capablitiy and can notes, sequences, etc. be edited via time code events? Barry
Thanks, Mike. BTW, I ordered the "real thing" today. I use 30 frame code mostly (which works), but I'd like the option of using 24, df, etc., since I never know what others will bring me. Barry

#Music-X Concerns
Message #13821
Mike, Did you ever get around to showing Matt that IFF picture that I uploaded to you? If you remember, I was testing the demo of Music-X when I ran into trouble syncing it, via MIDI, with time code other than 30 fps. You couldn't tell me what was wrong…
Thanks, again Mike, any idea when VTOT will ship?
Thanks, Mike, looks like it'll be Music-X afterall.

Music-X Concerns

It does work, 30 frame mode only, actually as a calcualtor, it works also, it just has the wrong numbers "hardwired into it", still makes it not that useable!

Music-X Concerns
Message #12771
Mike, When Music-X was still vapor ware I talked to someone about sequencers in the AmigaArts forum who said he was working on Music-X (SMPTE MIDI calculations I believe), I think it was you but am not sure. In any case, I described my needs for a sequencer that "understood"…
OK, Allen. It may just be that the EPS has no way of dumping a sample from the front panel. Turtle Beach makes a sample editor (IBM) and for it to work I'd guess it would have to have the sample in the computerstill, might drop by MIDI and rattle…
Karl, I bought the EPS from Bernie at MAO and I reccomend him. I don't really remember what I paid, however, just a couple of weeks ago I asked Bernie to plex me his prices-these are the latest that I have. EPS $1396 (list $1995), EPS rack $2306 (list $3295).…
Good, how to you get the EPS to do a sample dump. Nothing in the manual about it-that I've seen anyway, and I've been told that it doesn't support the standard sample dump format. But maybe that was in the early releases of the OS? Barry
The EPS does _not_ support the standard sample dump. But there must be some way to do it. Turtle Beach has an IBM based sample editor for the EPS. Is that what you were talking about getting ported? Barry
The problem is that the EPS doesn't support the MIDI sample dump standard. I know there's at least one sample editor for it on IBM/compatibles, so there must be some way of doing it. Barry
OK, Dave. I'm going to have to take a closer look at that sequence you sent me (oops, song). Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. Barry
Oops, almost forgot, it's data storage format is 16 bit. Barry
David, First thanks for your help. It seems though that I forgot the first rule of working with computers-when they start acting strange re-boot _everything_ and start over. As you remember, my problem was with an endless loop. I must have goofed if you didn't end up with a track…
Sort of, it's DA converters are 13 bit, all internal processing is 24 bit. However the 68000, which the EPS is based on, is 16 bit 🙂 Barry
Rich, The EPS is a great machine. There's no contest between it and the Amiga's sampling capabilities (and at the cost of an A2000 there shouldn't be!). It has incredible power to manipulate sampled sound. It's a 16 bit machine (68000 based) . It has very clean sound-(sampling rate at…
EPS Sample editor

Rich, Do you know if there's a visual sample editing system for the Ensoniq EPS? Barry
David, How do you send 8 bit data through the E-plex System? Barry
#Pro MIDI Studio
Message #22845
In Pro MIDI Studio, when a track is looped, apparently, velocity information is no longer sent. The first time through is fine, only when it loops does it start to sound flat. On a drum hot drum track through the EPS, a lot of 127 velocities, the output is 6…
Arp
Message #59396
Just installed Arp and am having trouble with the Ares command. No matter what I try to make resident, if I run it second time I end up with a requestor telling me I have a checksum error. I used the Arp install utility on two different workbenches on one…

Downloaded MFR form the MIDI DL. It's docs say that it requires Bill Barton's MIDI.library which is PD. However I can't find it in any of the DLs. If it is indeed PD, will someone please upload it. Thanks. Barry

The SMPTE lock I'm using is a dedicated system called SMPL lock. It's a modified VIC 20 with a seperate lock mount box. The way it works is simple, you record time code on an audio track or adress track of a VCR and also on a multi-track tape recorder.…

"Big" MIDI Interfaces
Message #3030
I'd like to, the problem is one of time, I don't have any! My workbench is now covered with the guts of a custom designed motion picture interlock, (no more selsyn motors) that will work with virtually _any_ motor system. Barry

Midi interfaces
Message #3029
Roger, I designed the adaptor for the 1000 to 500/2000 MIDI interface that was printed in AC. I just wanted to let you know that I've recieved two reports that this adaptor does _NOT_ work with the Golden Hawk Amiga 1000 interface. Unfortunatly, no one has stuck with me long…

That's a _fabulous_ solution!
Thanks, Doug. I am using a 2400 baud phone #, but I will check again. I'm only making a comparison with Xmodem because I can't get past the copyright message using CoComm! I'm using it now-BUT at 300 baud. Barry

I just bought a new modem. The Supra 2400. It's like lightning compared to my old 300 baud acoustic coupled monster. I have had a couple of problems though. I logged onto a local BBS and downloaded a file at 2400 using Xmodem on a VT 100 emulator. I was…
