#Patches and updates Message #192072
How do we obtain any patches, bug fixes or updates for 3D Studio Release 4? We can't believe that since release, that no bugs have been fixed… Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.
#Running out of files? Message #192071
Is there a known problem with 3DS Revision 4 concerning not closing files? We're having problems with the program crashing and it appears to be running out of MSDOS file handles. On CONFIG.SYS, we've tried settings FILES=255 but the problem still occurs. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.

I've just read the very informative 3DSNET.TXT file. It mentions on several occasions the importance of shared file access concerning texture maps, IPAS routines etc. We've using a Novell V3.12 network and keep the texture maps on the server (in SYS:RENDFARM/IMAGES). 3DSNET.TXT says you need a network operating system that…

Thanx – I've found 3DSNET.TXT and very useful it is too. From a non-artist point of view, I'd agree about rendering individual frames. I'll have a go at suggesting it to the lads. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.

>Don't forget to check out 3DSNET.TXT. It talks about this subject in detail. Is that on-line somewhere? >they are done. The time you save having more than one machine rendering should >far outweigh the extra time it take to compile the images into a FLC file. I'd agree but the…
#178774 #S3d vs. Alias Message #178869
That's a little unfair 🙂 Alias has more features than 3DS and can produce certain effects (fire) that look a lot better. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.
Animator for Windows Message #178659
Does this exist? Any information welcomed. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.

Hmm.. When we first set-up the render farm, I'm *sure* we tried using the net queue to render a FLIC on -ANY- machine. What happened was that all the machines started rendering the same FLIC which, as you say, won't work due to the FLIC file format (I guess). However,…
#178555 No mouse Message #178657
Hi, The switch box doesn't have mouse connections – just video and keyboard. No mouse driver is loaded. 3DS loads fine without the mouse – it just crashes when it tries to exit slave mode (I think). It's not *that* much of a problem – the crash is usually a…
#No mouse Message #178510
Hi, We've got a render farm set-up with six 64MB 100 MHz Pentium systems connected to the Novell the network. One monitor and keyboard are shared between all six systems. Occasionally, 3DS stops network rendering and displays a prompt, e.g. do you want to go through the partially recorder FLIC?…
#178459 3DS R5 for Win95? Message #178503
Experience has shown us that you need a pretty high end PC for serious 3DS work anyway. That kind of PC will run NT anyway. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.
