Asus Eisa dual pent MB with himem.sys as mem manager! No need for Qemm.
Christoper, i'm also in Pal land and stumbled over the same problems. The new MCI drivers wouldn't work at all (didn't try pardrvP; never saw it, we do have the 1.50 upgrade) but I can see the Windows Parsetup with NTSC frame rates.
We run 3DS with 96 Mb without Qemm !
do you stripe these seagate's ?
64 MB limit for Pharlap?
Message #159560
Stefan, As promised I gave 3ds a workout with 96 mb installed in our Asus system. Worked fine, no Pharlap complaints. Rendered a rather large mesh (150.000 triangles) and rendered it to full dia-resolution (4096*3072). 3DS used mem was about 89 mb and no swapping needed!. Took only two hours…
Stefan, I just managed to get my 96 mb available to Pshop/Himem. I have the same Asus board, used Himem/eisa, but didn't know I had to enable the Eisa memory with Eisa cfg. !! Did you have to do this or does your very new Bios solve this automatically ?…
Stefan, Which Asus board do you use. I recently tried the same and never got more than 64 Mb available (memory count saw them, but himem /eisa didn't ).
Grab video+audio simul ?
Message #157184
We need to capture live video including sound and hoped to use the combination Par and Razor Pro. The apparent lack of a Windows capture driver for the Par seems to make it impossible. Is there any way to simultaneously capture video to the PAR and sound with a sound…
Could be. However don't get mixed up: there is a second ASUS dual-pent board out. The new one has ISA slots instead of EISA's. Both have PCI slots. We didn't test the ISA version so far.
Martin, never experienced such troubles with the Asus. Only weak spot is the lack of onboard I/O and IDE. Lack of free slots bothers us on all machines, but our 'normal' Asus boards do have integrated I/O/IDE/Flop. BTW, I recall one problem with our dual Pent machine: sometimes when powering…
Wfw connected to NT server. Also for some jobs Lantastic peer to peer.
Martin, since september '94 we use a Asus dual pent Eisa/PCI motherboard for 3DS jobs. Works fine with one processor. Dual processor 3DS has to wait until the NT-version is shipping . (And lets hope Yost does some smart threading; not all NT-apps are accelerated by using two processors, f.i.…
Thanks for the elaborate answer. It's certainly a way to go, but the soundpeople over here prefer the fully automated setup with SMPTE hardware controlling the whole setup.
>Just record the time code on an audio channel for Razor Pro Ah, I didn't even know Razor could grab audio itself simultaneously with video. As I saw it demonstrated the PAR DOS software was used to grab the video and the audio was captured in a separate pass with…

Don, you seem to have some experience in audio-video interfacing. I got some questions of soundstudio clients who are interested in replacing their (U-matic) tape-decks with some sort of non-linear system. (Understand their needs: there is no fun at all waiting for these big clicking switches, preroll etc.). But of…
Thanks for the help Christophe
Will Tapedisk work with DDS-2 drives ? Or at least with DDS-1 tapes in a DDS-2 drive. So far I understood it only works with the older smaller drives.
>"WFW Add-On for MS-DOS" product Glen, do I understand this product has server capabilities ? I thought we bought that a while ago only to find there is no Dos-server capability. However earlier ad's from M'soft did claim it, but the Dos-server was apparently dropped according to my sources. If…
John, I would love to. Give me the Dutch phonenumber and I will contact them. Fremer.
Jonas, Do you refer to my msg as 'inappropiate' ? I won't elaborate again, but I just tried to inform people about the difference between technical possibilities and real solutions. I didn't think I broke any rule and even took the 'precaution' not to go into any detail. By stating…
Is it possible to post some sort of technical summary of the Razor Pro capabilities in relation to the PAR. I try to follow this thread, but 'm clearly missing the global picture. I read your ad/flyers but still don't know the answers to some basis questions: how does Razor…
Far as I know: there used to be two Micropolis drives, but we can't get them anymore. The new Conner 1.2 Gb drives seem to added to the list of PAR-compatible drives, but rumour says there are less speedy when filled above 30 percent. These drives are -very- fast when…

you are right. In the past we never considered keeping all the Targa's. But such a small handsome Ani file; you just can't delete it willingly. However what we do is export the ANI back to the normal hard-disk en copy it to a DAT-tape. This way we never encountered…

Hi John, Good to hear there is an office in the Netherlands. I do privately own an Amiga and a IBM platform and am not convinced the Amiga is the platform of my (clients) choice. We do lots of commercial DTV projects and they are all based on PC=products. I…
Which 1.2 Gig drives from conner specifically. We are a Par-dealer and we have the same problem: our distributor can't deliver any Micropolis drives on the PAR approved list as we have it. Are there more drives added to the PAR-compatible list ? Fremer
Don, maybe your animations are short enough but we do ( and our clients) do anims of about a minute and rerendering them is just not feasible. At the moment we have a project which took 1200 hours of rendering on a pent/90 and I would hate to redo it.;…
Hello, I'm Fremer Huijgen and work for a company "Studio PC" who sells and integrates all sorts of graphical systems. As the name of the company tries to suggest we are pc-based (as opposed to Mac or workstation). We are based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Desktop video is just one of…
Hi Sid, Which Miro board you have ? I wasn't aware they had a Mpeg board already. Sure it's no M-Jpeg ?
Welcome!

Me too
Hi Christophe, You suggest Dutch customers to buy in the UK. Well even in Holland we have PAR resellers. Pretty sure of it as we are ourselves a PAR dealer specializing on the PC-platform.
We had similar problems to James and you. We got a new PAR board and everything seemed to be solved. We were able to import, duplicate, join etc. No problems, no complaints and wow what a perfect product when it works…………… But after a few days we got a new…
Hi Theo, Did you really answer James or did you have the same problems as we have at Studio PC (erratic behavior). We checked placement in the slot, as you are right we have seen problems in the past just by misplacement of the board. It's a long card and…
Alan, we did reformat the drive etc. Nothing helps, I agree there must be a hardware problem. Will try to get if fixed. Too bad we miss our deadline, sigh … Thanks for your input
Thanks for the hints Martin, We tried all that but without succes. We reformatted the whole disk and put only the necessary ani back. Still bad frames in between and at random.
Hi Don, This are the missing specs: BLF: 200 Q: 23 Harddisk Micropolis 2210A (1GB) Free: > 700 MB Yes, we have checked the TGA's ; they are oke, even the par seems to be able to import them sometimes! Behavior is really erratic. Hope this helps. Still desperate as…

Sorry if this messages pops up twice, we seem to have some trouble with compuserve as well. So here it is (again?). Help: my PAR is malfunctioning. I have it for a week now and the first few days it worked fine. We put the card and disk in another…
James, I notice you have (or had?) similar problems as we have. Maybe there is somebody who can help us out. I have a PAE for a week now and the first few days it worked fine. We put the card and disk in another computer, even connected it to…
