Whap & Tymnet
Message #61040
I'm having trouble getting WHAP to log on with Tymnet… When it asks you to login, all Whap sends is an X… if I wait long enough it will send the acct# and password, but Tymnet is still waiting for me to login… I've set up a file as suggested…
Steve, I'm glad you contacted me! Yes, we did find a few things of interest in there 🙂 What is your address so that I can mail it back to you? There are two different labels on the box. And I have to mail you a copy of the video…
Mike, I don't know if it's going to be made available in PAL or not, if you're interested, you should call Ken Blakeman of TechMedia Video at (603) 924-0115. He can give you more information about the availability of the tape. As far as I know, it will be available…
Pat, Sorry, I just read my message and it was really unclear. History of the Amiga is a videotape. We gathered most of the original Amiga crew, took their pictures and home video and put it all together. It's a kind of chronology of events, reminisces, stories, and unusual pictures.…
#History of the Amiga
Message #60997
Hey everybody, Just wanted to let you know that "History of the Amiga" is finally finished and is available. It's a gathering of the most of the original group that created the Amiga, Jay Miner, RJ Mical, Carl Sassenrath, Dave Needle… Chris – via Whap!
Betty, I found that my .SEC files had a line or two of stray characters in the beginning, and Whap wasn't reading them. I loaded them into a text editor, cleaned up the characters, and Whap worked fine after that Chris – via Whap!
Whap Woes
Message #40380
I'm having a major problem with Whap! The program appears to run properly, but it doesn't save any of my messages. It runs through them, and grabs the message headers (I have it set to scan), but when I go to look at them, nothing shows (and the R isn't…
Thanks Daniel, Unfortunately that's not available. I have a copy of it,but we can't use it. And (most importantly) it don't fit! Thanks Chris
Scott, Your last sentence says it all. The programs that you mention (ADPro & Imagine) have to be run on the Amiga – can't be run from "inside" to Toaster. You should definitely get a look at an Amiga and see what it's like. Hardware and software depends upon what…
Steve… That's what I'm trying to find out. Andy Finkel gave me the name of the production company that did it, but they say they know nothing about it… Geez… – via Whap!
John, Yes, we're in production right now – actually putting it all together! Finally! It should be out in about a week or two! Chris – via Whap!
don't know if they were distributed or not, but I assume Commodore had a decent copy made… Hmmmmmmmm… chris
Oh geez! You didn't get one!?! Can I send it to you at Commodore..? Let me know.. Chris
HI John, I am AmigaWorld's video department! 🙂 I've spoken to RJ and a few of the other originals. Andy Finkel gave me the name of a production company in NY, but they have no record of it.. I'll keep looking.. thanks for the help! Chris
Amiga Launch..!!?
Message #58241
I'm having great difficulty locating video of the original Amiga 1000 launch in NYC. I've received video from several people, but it is of poor quality. Does anyone know where I can get a 3/4" copy of the launch video? I'm working on a video project and have been unable…

Wayne, Well, the new FFS also came on the GVP disk. So I copied it over… Which explains why my hard disk was working well and my Syquest wasn't. I had formatted the hard disk with the GVP floppy… Had new FFS on it…! Chris
Wayne, Well, GVP has another suggestion. Because it only happens when I switch cartridges, they suggesst that it may be the fastfilesysstem file. An older one is about 12k, a newer one is about 20k. I swapped the two, rewrote my RDB, and so far so good. I'll keep you…
thanks Jonathan, What I've heard so far is that they run abour $400-600.. Chris
Would you check it out? Thanks – it's always good to know… Chris
#Syquest again!!!!
Message #56641
Okay, I'm still having problems with my SyQuest… I have a GVP G-force 030, and a Quantam 40 meg drive attached to the SCSI port… I also have the Syquest attached… Today, after I swapped disks, I got a "Syq: has a read/write error" message! Ugh! My other disk said…
Jonathan, What's the cost of that unit…? Chris
Tape Backup
Message #56625
I found part of a thread about a tape backup, but can't finr the original msg… Does anyone have tape backup info for the Amiga? Brand names, model #'s and prices would be a great help! Thanks Chris
Skip, Things are okay for a while. I have a GVP to play with for a While…. We'll see what happens… But the Syquest's have to be formatted exactly the same… that can be a real drag. Chris
No problem, Bruce. I seem to suffer from the same syndrome at times. It really doesn't matter as long as I get my data back! Now if only I had a tape backup instead of using 10s of floppies! Chris
Hi Bruce, Can you tell me which utility from QBtools did that? I tried it and it wouldn't work. But I had something else screwed up, so maybe that was the problem… Chris
Steve, Well, I seem to have been able to take care of my problem for hte immediate future. I used diskdoctor (not the AmigaDos one) to "find" all of the files on the cartridge. I then backed up (and 32 some odd floppies later) and restored the files – after…
Jonathan, See my reply to steve. So far so good. Keep your fingers crossed! Chris
Steve, Okay, here's the update. I got the new cartridges to format and read okay… Now the old one still wouldn't come up. When I say "come up", I mean that I don't get a SYQ: icon on workbench, or sometimes it would say "Not a DOS disk " (shudder!).…
#HELP! Syquest woes
Message #55652
Okay, I have a major problem. I have a 2000, with a 40 meg hard drive and 2091 controller. I have an internal Syquest as well. I just got two cartridges for the Syquest, and tried to format them. They don't come up when I put them in, and they…
Hi Pete, I'll be there for my first one…! Chris How about you?
Mike, Most of them use the serial port on the record deck. I need to get an dA/B switch for my system, because the controller uses the same port as my edit controller… Good Luck, Chris
Mike, ' From my past work with the BVE-900, I seriously doubt if there is any animation-type features built in. There are a number of inexpensive and reliable single fram controllers around… Chris
Thanks, John… I'll check it out… Chris
Peter, Yup, I have an image from a CDTV disc, but it looks crappy. Almost done… Chris
#Muybridge picture
Message #17267
Can anyone help me out with this one? I'm looking for a picture of Eadward Muybridge – he's considered one of the fathers of animation. I need it ASAP for a project I'm working on. The only pic that I've been able to find is from a DCTV disc, and…

Message #51968
In case you missed my last message, I am selling an Sony EVO-9700. Originally over $5000, I'm asking $4,000. Or make me an offer. (603) 924-0324 Chris 70762,424
gary, I don't think that the 9700 has the features necessary to do that. Have you tried calling Sony? They're usually pretty good… Chris
Sony EVO-9700 for sale
Message #50697
I had previously advertised a Sony EVO-9700 for sale here for $4400. After a little homework, I found out that they're selling for about $4800 new (+ shipping). So, I've lowered my price to $4000, and I'll even pay for shipping ('cos I'm a nice guy :)). This machine has…
Joel, From my experience, Hi8 can hold up for one or two generations, and then degrades noticeably. If you're planning to use the 9700 for editing and then dumping it to 3/4", you should be okay. I wouldn't use it for much more. Chris
