#47496 #Other Unix? Message #47505
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX July 6, 1995 12:11 PM
CEI still had them for sale – that's how I got mine. It cost about $100. But, you must have an '030 processor, and it will only work with the SCSI controller on an A3000 or the 2091, I think. Kevin Ragsdale
#Other Unix? Message #47492
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX July 5, 1995 5:24 PM
What options for Unix are there for the Amiga besides Amiga Unix? I've seen references to NetBsd and something else, but I don't know what they are. Can someone help me out? I'd like to get UNIX for my Amiga, but since it's an '040, that rules out Amiga Unix.…
#5382 SVHS for local ads? Message #5387

Jeff, Thanks for the reply! Kevin

I have started to produce some commercials for local businesses, and have a question. Is S-VHS an acceptable format for this? I shoot my footage on a Sony VX-3 camcorder, and then dump the footage to an NLE. After editing, the finished product is sent to an SLVR-1000 VCR. The…
#Recompile Unix? Message #46184
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX March 18, 1995 3:48 PM
I have what may be a stupid question, since I know next to nothing about programming. I know that Amiga Unix runs only on an '030 processor. Would it be possible to simply recompile the source code for an '040? Like I said, the only programming experience I have is…
#Production Rates?? Message #44852
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Arts Forum · Applications December 23, 1994 3:44 PM
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what to charge for multimedia projects? I realize that costs probably very widely from area to area and from project to project, but how do you go about it? Do you have an hourly rate; if so, what is it? The projects…
#Record Deck? Message #44739
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile December 15, 1994 4:03 PM
What would be the best (or most cost-effective) record deck to use for local commericals? I know BetaCam is the best, but that's way out of my price range – even the new "low-cost" UVW's. My cammy is a Sony VX-3; from there the footage is dumped to an Applied…
#Unix on '040? Message #43537
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX October 27, 1994 8:50 AM
I just purchased a copy Amiga Unix. I've heard that it won't operate on '040 based machines. I believe that Unix requires an MMU; so my question is, will it work on a full blown '040? The person I heard this from had a stock 4000. I know that many…
#2GB Limit? Message #155685
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware July 8, 1994 10:47 AM
I've heard that the Amiga has a 2GB limit for a single hard drive partition. I was thinking about buying one of the new 4.3 GB Barracuda drives (I've got a Broadcaster32), and was wondering if this is correct, and if it is, if there is any way around it…
#Betacam SP question Message #41464
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile May 27, 1994 6:05 PM
I just received come information on the UVW series of Sony Betacamn SP decks. It says the Audio frequency response of these decks tops out at 12.5 Khz. Isn't this pretty lousy? I mean Hi-Fi VHS does 20-20,000 Hz, which is supposed to be about CD quality. Is there something…

I've had two IDE drives in my 4000 for quite a while – the stock 120MB and a 340MB Conner. It recognized them just fine. However, when my Conner died and I replaced it with a Western Digital 420MB, the Amiga wouldn't recognize the 420MB Drive on a cold boot,…

I think they are saying that you can transfer your existing SIMMs from the motherboard to the Warp Engine card, allow a much faster RAM access, while you must use GVP's proprietary RAM with their accelerator. Kevin Ragsdale
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware May 9, 1994 3:11 PM
I'm have the same problem with my Western Digital 420 MB drive. I checked my manual, but is said nothing about setting a faster spin up time. 340MB Conners work fine, by the way Kevin Ragsdale
Toaster Problem Message #80655
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek April 29, 1994 10:35 AM
I'm haveing a strange problem with my Toaster. I've got an A4000 w/ 18MB RAM and a Toaster 4000. When I go into LightWave, everytime I try to select a color button (Surface Color, Light Color, or Background Color) the Program monitor displays a very distorted version of my computer…

John, Is there a new version of Scala Infochannel? My dealer called me and said he would be sending me "403". That was about 2 weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since. Also, is it possible to play a low-res anim on a hi-res screen. I would like you…

Hel!! I just bought a Maxtor MXT-1240s Drive for my 3000, and the c can't recognize it. I go to HDToolbox and try to read the configuration, and it knows the name of the drive and nothing else. I got the No. of Cylinders and heads from Maxtor's automated line,…

In the back of Video Toaster User there's always an ad from a company called Ambitious Technologies for their Toaster Oven. The ad is for the Oven 3000, but I called them a while back and they said they had a version for the 4000 ready. It's supposed to allow…

We've got one set up where I work. I played Crash and Burn, or whatever the game is that comes with it. It was OK, but I wasn't really impressed with it. The controller is a clone of the SNES controller, by the way. Also, It sure takes a long…
#68753 4000 Accelerator Message #68760
From: Kevin Ragsdale Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek November 20, 1993 8:09 AM
They said the memory access speed was 3 to 5 times faster, not the operation of the CPU. I think the ad said "up to 80% faster" operation. Kevin Ragsdale

The Excalibur is a memory board that plugs in to the '040 socket on the CPU daughtercard. I called Mirco R & D, and they said this allows the CPU to access the memory "three to five times faster" than before. It has room for 128 MB of expansion. Safe…

Check out the Toaster Oven from Ambitious Technologies. There's and ad in the latest VTU Magazine. It supposedly allows 4 PC slots, 4 Amiga Zorro III slots and 1 video slot simultaneously, and has 10 drive bays. It's available for the 3000 and 4000, and the ad says its upgradeable…
