As it turns out, DTA 2.0.7 (Dave's Targa Animator) ran into the TGA output problem. Acording to that author, Imagine produces 24-bit TGA files =with a palette=. Dunno what you would use the palette for, neither did Dave, but he fixed it nonetheless.
I've tried uncompressed TGA brushes on my PC version and it doesn't seem to work… I get the "Error reading brush" message. TIFs work OK, though. I also would like to see compressed brush map file support. /// Mike ///
You don't need OS/2 for 32-bit support, you just need to compile to a protected mode target. /// Mike ///
Mike, Did you ever try to render a scene with ground fog in PC Imagine. You may recall that I reported that Imagine dropped to DOS when I tried that. I also mentioned that I could not get the "Grow" special effect to work correctly. On the simplest setup I…
Blaq, Hey, I wasn't complaining! (Was I?) Thanks for the help! I've got Worley's book now, and the gates of understanding are beginning to creeeeeak open. /// Mike ///
Ok…. I have pared this path thing down to the bare bones, and IT DOES NOT COLOR CORRECTLY! I have a red triangle growing on a straing, two-point path, and the side is BLUE. Rick… can you duplicate this, one way or another? How did your ground fog test go?…
Oops… Disregard previous message. Really clever. Rainbow update: Got tired of trying to use a disk, made a panel of two-faced squares and colored each square. Avoided the twist problem by rotating the AXIS inside the object. I still have a weird coloration problem… the end of the object is…
Blaq, Thanks for the detailed walk-through; I'll have to try it. Having the third object to serve as the track object is pretty clever. Now, here comes the interesting question: how would I make a LOOPING roller coaster animation? /// Mike /// p.s. Finally ordered Worley's book — waiting expectantly.
Thanks! Examples are what I need! /// Mike /// p.s. Rick; can you get ground fog to work?
Blaq, I'm afraid I don't follow (no pun intended). Rick tells me that Imagine is contrained to make the object complete the path, forcing it to travel at whatever speed is necessary to do so. If I could control the speed, I could give the object a head start (those…
Next problem… I want to create a growing rainbow, so I created a path, put a disk flat on the ground and GROUPED it to the path, then assigned the GROW special effect. So far so good, but… the disk "twists" in on the Z axis, and leaves a discolored…
#Ground Fog?
Message #56573
I think that I have isolated my abend problem to ground fog. A stage setup with one sphere, one light, a ground and a camera renders fine, but when I add 0-50 ground fog to the globals, *BWAMMO*. Could you verify that a similar scene renders OK on your end?
Rick, That explains it! OK, that covers having an object complete =less= than a full path circuit… now, how do I make it cover =more= than a full circuit? Or, alternatively, can I start an object at an offset from the beginning of the path? I want the camera to…
#Ack Revisited
Message #56401
Well, I moved IMAGINE to my local drive, recovered my PATH project from the zip file, and it still bombs. Go to the stage editor and try to QuickRender a frame. I get to about 40%, then *BOOM* "Call Impulse". I have (*sigh*) re-uploaded the offending file. I figured out…
Ack! No, I meant that I needed to download the file I uploaded, because it got wiped out by crosslinks. No matter; it wasn't so complex that I can't recreate it. While I'm here… how do I add another control point to an existing path? /// Mike /// p.s. Showed…
As per the addendum you should have received, start IMAGINE with the /NOXMS switch. /// Mike ///
On the other hand… it may be that IMAGINE doesn't want to live on a DOS 6 DBLSPACE drive. I moved it to my uncompressed volume, and now I need to DL the file I UL'ed, because the program ate some files. I'll post again if it works OK.
Rick… This could be the start, etc. For one thing… why only the RIGHT Alt key? Failing that, why EITHER Alt key? Why not just letters? It's not like a word processor, where you have to intersperse commands with text… Now, another problem. After spinning an object in place, I…
#PC Imagine arrives
Message #56169
What do the "HAM" and "LACE" buttons do on PC Imagine? How do I set the resolution for the interface (I can go to 1024×768)? How do I get Imagine to take advantage of my Diamond SS24X hi-color mode? If I attempt an operation like Add Lines and I don't…
Thanks… I found a vendor for the book. Supposedly Powell's Technical Bookstore has it. Their # is 1-800-225-6911 or 1-503-228-3906 for those in CA. /// Mike ///
While I'm here, does anyone have the ISBN for Steve Worley's "Understanding Imagine"? Thanks… /// Mike ///
Rick, I don't have it yet, but I was wondering how much more RAM I should install — I only have 4 Meg now *sigh*. Are all the disks shipping now fixed for the DOS 6 and SS24X bugs, or are these fixes only available on request? If so, I'll…
Is the PC version of IMAGINE as memory-hungry as the AMIGA version. I mean, gee! 16 meg not enough?!? What is the program doing, devoting a RGB triplet for each voxel in the world space? Can the PC version use objects from the AMIGA version? /// Mike ///
