Well, of course there is the Supra 2400zi internal modem for the Amiga, but by today's standards 2400 baud is old stuff (but it is what I use). My Supra 2400zi works fine and doesn't use my serial port up.
Thank you for the answer .. even though I'd rather have a DIFFERENT answer. But your answer is doable. It is too bad AmigaDOS (or WShell) don't provide some standard calls to access various windows and provide an easy way to manage them from a shell script or ARexx program.

Does anybody know a way, using WShell or other ADOS 2.04 command, to check what window the mouse cursor is in, … i.e. which window is ACTIVE?. Is there a way to force a given window to be the ACTIVE window?
Yes, this does the job for most of the cgFONTs. I don't get all the characters with ZapfDingbats though. The rest of the fonts translate all the characters, especially " and ' which are quite important!. Thanks.

Good. I did discover an exception with the Zapfdingbats font though. See my message 46191 above. That font acted entirely different than the normal cgFONTS with regular text, and I expect there is some other problem here.
