#5366 SVHS for local ads? Message #5378
From: Harry Kaufmann Desktop Video Forum · A/V Equipment May 16, 1995 9:54 PM
The problem is not with using S-VHS, but with the S-VHS player that you are using. The Sony SLVR-1000 is really just a consumer deck (which is how it is sold in Japan). The s/n is terrible. If you dumped your Hi8 tape directly from the NLE to a high…

The best is a card made my Magni. The best for the money seems to be the AverKey 3.

"There is a company Carlson-Strand that makes a mounted adapter for the VX3 allowing use of 2 XLR mics" Carlson-Strand does not make this adapter. I would love to have one too for my VX3 but will have to custom make one. I like the idea of mounting the adapter…

Hi John, I talked to Gary at EM today and they had two left at only $200 each! I ordered one but it will not come with any software. I understand that the Magni card is software independent and that I can use other titling packages with this card. Please…

Do you have the G-Lock Personal Suite Plus or the CG Suite Pro? Is this card the same as the Magni? I understand that the Magni Pro card is $1500. If so I would like to buy one asap.
#5145 #VDECK & Titles Message #5156
For titles I presently use a Videonics Titlemaker. Although this has served me well over the years I would like to upgrade to a 3D computer titling program like Crystal Flying Fonts. It has won many awards and easy to use. I have not personally tried it yet. Also it…

You may have a problem with an unbalanced output from the XLR to miniplug connector. You should make sure that you have an impedance matching transfer built into the XLR connector and that everthing is grounded correctly.

Now I remember looking at the GVP card before. What I did not like about it was that it only had composite out. The nest higher card. the one with S-video out was too expensive. I did not realize that they went out of business.

Mmmmm. Sounds interesting. Tell me more about your setup. What hardware and software are you running and what can this Magni card do. Also what did this setup cost you?

John, you can work with a copy to do the editing, then go back to the original to do the final edit with the system you have. But you cannot do it with VD. My advice, throw away VD and get EZV2. It is far more powerful than VD and…

I sent you a long reply but somehow sent it to myself! So please find my reply in the map.

Hi Martin, Thanks for the very informative reply – more than I expected. It sounds like you are doing quite well. I am in my 2nd year of business but do this only part time so I am not as aggresive as you. I am currently working on my scriptwriting…

#4457 Sony XV-D1000 SEG Message #4468
From: Harry Kaufmann Desktop Video Forum · A/V Equipment April 7, 1995 7:38 AM
Thanks for the feedback on the Sony SEG. I'm glad you rate it so well. I would like to incorporate this SEG with my EZV2 program since I can control it through the VISCA interface, something that I cannot do with the MX1. I'll read the library info as well.

From: Harry Kaufmann Desktop Video Forum · A/V Equipment April 6, 1995 6:45 PM
I am comparing the price/performance/features of the Sony XV-D1000 SEG to the Videonics MX1. The Sony is quite a bit more expensive but is it worth it? Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the Sony? Any comments would be appreciated.

I see that you do industrial videos. How do you find you customers, or how do they find you? Also who does the scripts? I am very interested in breaking into this market. Do you find that 3rd or 4th generation VHS dubs are of adequate quality for this market?

Hi John, The only way to add audio to S-VHS after video editing is to dub to the linear (usually mono) audio track. I have often done this as well but have never been happy with the results. The sound quality is comparable to a real cheap cassette deck. The…

Yes John, it looks like you would have to buy another record deck, either a Panasonic 1970 and a Selectra VuPort interface or any Sony VCR with another Vbox. I don't think that any serious editor would use a IR wand – too unreliable. EZV2 is a Windoze program. You…

John, some people like to use the 7000 deck but I prefer to use the Vdeck since it is designed around the VISCA interface and can use all the features built into it such as audio and video fades. It is also a much more compact machine than the 7000.…

If you want to edit from Hi-8 to S-VHS why don't you save yourself some money and forgoe the 9720 and get a Vdeck and a S-VHS recorder instead. This should save you a considerable sum. You can edit from the Vdeck with near frame accuracy with many inexpensive PC…

Sorry for the typo, yes the second list should be for record. Carlson-Strand can be reached at (714) 492-8978. You need their GPI-1 General Purpose Interface Converter. It sells for $95. It is a one way interface.

Hi James, The EZV2 PC program will work with your setup and two Vboxes but this configuration limits your capability. This program is ideally suited to at least one Vdeck for the source (two for A/B roll) and a Vdeck for the record. With a Vdeck as a source: -…

RCTC stands for "rewritable consumer time code" which Sony developed for their 8mm format. If you are using a Sony SLV-R5 as an output deck, you must be using VITC generated by the FAST machine. The R5 is an S-VHS machine that cannot read or record RCTC. You are correct…

Lynn, during insert editing, does the VITC signal get rewritten or is it left intact or does it get wiped out when using the FAST machine?

Thanks for your reply. I don't beleive that the FAST machine could use RCTC on the record deck since that TC is only used in the 8/Hi-8 format. I understand that the FAST machine can stripe VITC on the input and output tapes but can't see how it could possibly…

Hi Raymond, I read about the equipment that you have and would like to ask you some questions. I also have the VX3 and really like it's manual features and picture quality. I wish it was a shoulder mount though. I found that it is indeed a "battery eater". I…

#2528 VISCA Vdeck problem Message #2537
From: Harry Kaufmann Desktop Video Forum · Editing and Editors February 2, 1995 11:15 PM
Ray, I have had similar problems with the Vdeck when running on GoldDisk's Videodirector. After much confusion and frustration, I found that I had to reset the Vdeck by physically unplugging the power cord for a few seconds. This has always recovered a "hung" condition for me. Good luck!
