Lee, No doubt, one of Bob Lassiter's kinder comments. tjl
#161183 Next Step Message #161218
Lee, I did. Pretty good coverage, too. Lot's of screen shots of 3DS in action. I didn't know you could get cable way up there in the arctic . tjl
#143451 body.doc Message #143529
Don, Nope. I just know that it gets created if you export a still frame as a targa. Probably a temporary file of some sort that doesn't get closed after the PAR is finished writing the targa. Spending Christmas under water this year? tjl
#143250 body.doc Message #143404
Don, It's coming from your PAR. tjl

Cal, You want TapCIS. It is absolutely terrific. It takes a little while to figure out all the ins and outs but you can program it, along with Taporder (for thread management) and Tappet (for intelligent thread marking), to do everything you need to do. tjl
Rewarded with a ride in your boat, I bet! After what Greg P. had to say, I doubt you'll get many takers – "Ah, no thanks, Lee… Ah…don't mention it, O.K.?" tjl
#123788 Artifact Message #123979
Shhhh! That's supposed to be a secret. I don't know about the movie thing. He hasn't been happy with the way they have turned out so far. He said that he will be the executive producer on the next one. I can't wait…Steven Sagal as John Kelly aka Mr. Clark…
#Artifact Message #123771
Paul, Thanks for the kind words about the newsletter. The nicknames are just my way of reminding everyone not to take themselves too seriously. We don't collect dues at the meetings and we don't have elected officials – we just show up! BTW, sorry it has taken me so long…
#119128 Storms Message #119344
Ha! tjl
#118892 #Storms Message #119102
Paul, I actually _do_ like storms but the lightning has a disturbing effect on my monitor! tjl
James, I need an address or are you that well known around the post office . tjl
#118573 #Storms Message #118869
Paul, _I_ am the one getting all the rain! Don has it easy up there in JAX. I bet the temperature even gets down in the 80's at night at his place. Did you get that copy of The Artifact I sent you? Whaddaya think? We put that one together…
#117786 Sound with 3DS Message #118024
Not me. That fiesty little program is _my_ secret weapon…if I can figure it out. tjl
James, I think the $299 price is a pre-release price and it goes up on Aug 15. tjl
#117323- #0.5 GB w/ PAR? Message #117645
Greg, I am no expert or anything, but due to the way the PAR/HD works, I believe that there is no way that you could use the dedicated hard drive to store anything but the video files. The way I understand the process, in order to playback the frames at…
#117553 PAR/VCRS Message #117644
Craig, Videomaker magazine just rated the Sony SLV-R1000 the best SVHS editing deck on the market. I think it lists for about $1000 although your mileage may vary. This little unit features HI-FI stereo, Control-L protocol, VCR+, automatic head cleaner, remote, and AC power cord (handy item). I'd call B&H…
#117075 Sound with 3DS Message #117643
Greg, That guy (Lee) is always saying stuff that sounds too good to be true . tjl
#117270 Novice Goin to Video Message #117642
James, The article Neil is referring to is a review of the Micropolis drive – not the PAR. The reviewer was using a Mac and VideoVision Studio capture card. After lurking about here for awhile, I have gathered from your messages to Wade that you had a good time here…
#117576 Help Message #117641
Jeff, Send me your address and I will send you some stuff. tjl
#117385 #Tips And Techniques Message #117640
OUCH!! But, I guess I would have to agree with you. Is one of the "better newsletters" _The Artifact_ from the Tampa user group? (shameless plug) Great tips. You should become a contributing editor for some of those newsletters! tjl
#115999 #Howlin' @ the MOON Message #116168
Yeah, we _were_ the last ones out of there. I remember walking up to the bartender looking for more tequila about 30 minutes after last call. When he turned around, I noticed he was wearing a badge! Yessiree…one of Orlando's finest to personally escort me out of the bar. I've…

Madeline, Pick up the current issue of Digital Video Magazine (July '94). It has an excellent article about music libraries and different methods of payment. Good advice from the article: "When scoring a video, you have three real choices: 1) write the music yourself, 2) pay the people who wrote…
#109370 Rule-based animations Message #109596
Isn't Richard looking to create a three dimensional path that uses the intersection of the horizontal path with the terrain? Then he could just adjust the rotation of the vehicle to allow for changes in the angle of the vehicle? (that's Angle of Attack for you pilots out there )…
Tampa Bay 3ds Group Message #107009
The June meeting of 3D Artists and Animators of Tampa Bay will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 20 at the DSA Building in Tampa. Thanks to the generosity of the 3d community, 3DAATB has secured many great items to raffle off. If you are not on our mailing…
I agree with Dave completely on both counts. I bring alot of stuff in from acad, so of course it is easy to break the model apart into separate files. If you are only using 3ds it may be alittle more difficult as the design has not already been completed.…
#105088 COGO to 3DS? Message #105180
COGO is an acronym for COordinate GeOmetry or something like that. We use it in the design of roadways and site development. Since I work in the Structural department (buildings and bridges), i don't have alot of need to know COGO. The geometry we need for the bridge is pretty…

#104999 COGO to 3DS? Message #105177
Thanks alot. Since I have not yet upgraded to release 3, I was unaware of this capability. Unfortunately, the COGO expert at my office knows very little about anything _but_ COGO. And I know very little about it. So, I'm not sure exactly what capabilities we have in house. tjl
COGO to 3DS? Message #104977
What is the best way to get coordinate geometry translated into something that 3D Studio can read? I don't know much about COGO but I'm pretty handy with AutoCAD. Any help will be appreciated. tjl
#Tampa 3DS Meeting Message #100941
On the agenda for this month's meeting is a discussion of Video Post techniques. The raffle will include a copy of Panacea Render pro and the last Autodesk European Projects CD. We will meet at the same bat location: the DSA building 2005 Pan Am Circle Tampa Fl. that's in…
Richard, WTMV, huh? Then you must be best friends with Mike Pachelli, right? If they have 3ds at Erwin, I'm gonna have to drop by there and hand out some flyers for the users group. BTW, the next meeting will be on May 16, so mark your calender. tjl
Richard, How about right here in Tampa? We meet every third Monday of the month from 7:00 P.M. to whenever. I'll put you on the mailing list. How do you like the ACAD instructor at Erwin? I went there before this guy arrived. I met him once when he brought…

Tom, I've been wondering…what do you use AAPro for in conjunction with 3ds? I don't know anything about AAPro. I just assumed that you would use it for titling but your message indicates that one would also want a titling program as well as 3ds and AAPro. Can you give…
#37750 3ds to video Message #37768
Kevin, Thanks alot. I had in mind to get one of the better graphics cards like the ATI or similar. At least I could see what the colors would look like. Have you heard anything about the Diamond Viper VLB with a Weitek graphics chip? (PC Mag March 30) tjl
#37678 #3ds to video Message #37690
I've located a local video service that can transfer my .tga files to video at what I consider to be a reasonable price. So, the luxury of owning my very own animation deck seems less important. Although, its not completely out of question. (especially after gobs of money starts rolling…
#37645 3ds to video Message #37689
I would really like to have the capability to render true color at higher resolutions. But in some cases, this may not be necessary. About how much is the Magni board? Are there resolution limitations? thanx alot. tjl
#3ds to video Message #37585
It seems to me that the only options for transfering animations to video that I can afford are s-vhs (Panasonic AG7750 – $5000) and hi-8 (Sony 9650 – $4200). But what do I need in addition to the deck? I called a video dealer to get a price on the…
3ds tapes Message #29234
