addendum to prior mesage: Muybridge was apparently quite a character.
Among other things, he was arrested for murdering the lover of his wife; he
was acquitted. His real name was Edward Muggeridge; he changed it to
Eadweard Muybridge. All this, and more, are in the intro to the Dover book
