Steve, I agree, $4k is a bit steep, but I dont think Ricoh is to worried. When I was at fall Comdex, I saw a lot of them in an OEM version. The most interesting thing was what is called Floptical (flop tickle) drives that store 20-40MB(I think, maybe more) on a 3.5" disk using a floptical drive which can read current 1.44mb and 720mb (730?) formats also. there are several companies supporting this "standard". 3M and Iomega (bernoulli box people) are to the only ones that I remember. the drive are only available as OEM as of fall comdex '91. They say that it would be a "low cost" solution. Tell me about the Panisonic drive you mentioned and the syquest. How are they different from/similar to the Ricoh or floptical drives ?
