I operate a gateway2000 486 DX2-66Mhz computer with a NEC 37 external CdROM and Trantor T-128 interface card. I likewise have had problems with intermittent (unexplained failure) and the CD 101 error message. The CD101 error message was resolved when I excluded the T-128 card memory addresses from the extended memory manager (QEMM) by adding a\the statement x=cc00-cdff to the config.sys line of the memory manger line. I also discovered that MSCDEX seems to work best when loaded into conventional( ie not high ram). Good luck BPM
