Wrong! IMHO. The reason the PC took off is 'cause some other companies created a compatible version of the system rom and then started making "work alikes" or if you prefer "clones" of the PC. The IBM name didn't hurt anything but remember the prices? The PC didn't really zoom untill the lower price clones appeared. This caused millions of compatible plug in boards and replacement parts to become available. Then major software vendors started writing code for them. And viola! we had a psuedo standard. Than IBM introduced the AT. The cloners did it better and faster. Now, look at the MAC. It's a closed machine and you won't find any legal ROMS for it unless Apple sells them. Look at the sales records between PC's and Macs. I do agree if CBM would get some marketing people that knew what they were doing they would be a bigger force. But, the PC is a hard act to follow.
