Hi, Guy and John– I agree also that Nature Conservancy is a far better approach to conservation than lobbying for laws. Laws are prone to backfiring or clobbering innocent bystanders. I would be very interested to know how often/much mercury and lead are picked up by gold miners. One wonders what it would cost to remove them without help from gold miners. They could serve as good ammunition for use in defending against the more dangerous bills. I remember an article about cases where the "tragedy of the commons" principle can actually work in reverse; I'll keep an eye out for it. –Doug
