I think the problem in that regard is that there's often no alternative.
If I don't like Impulse's manual, I can't refuse to purchase Imagine if I
want its capabilities — there's nothing else out there that does what
Imagine does.
Same thing with Innovision. There's a company that has had lots of
problems with support, although they're getting better. But how would you
"teach 'em a lesson"? Not buy Broadcast Titler II? What do you buy
instead? The alternative is ProVideoPost, and Shereff Systems has their
own problems.
I mean, you're absolutely right in what you say, but if every available
piece of software that does what you want to do is flawed in one way or
another, what do you do?
