Some LA employers do give their workers a big commitment, but it depends on the circumstances. They've been extremely good to us at Complete over the years, and the layoffs there have been very few and far between. (And as far as I know, neither telecine ops nor video editors have ever been laid off due to lack of business.) There's lots of freelance work in town if you know where to look for it. I'd also talk to all the smaller boutique places, like Anderson Video, VSC, Sunset Post, Vidfilm, and so on, in addition to the big places like AME, Modern, Complete and so on. If you're willing to work graveyard, do dubs, and so on, the jobs exist if you can just work out the timing. –MFW
