how are we doing?
I had no problem blowing the money on PageStream because the product looked
very good, specification wise. One *expects* that a product, even the first
release of said product, should have some bugs, but not so many as to
render the product useless.
You can't turn this around to be a 'buyer beware' kind of debate, because
software is something that can be trouble-shot until it's releasable, and
for a company to NOT do this is simply irresponsible. Thus, my dealings
with Soft Logik over the next few upgrades, and seeing the program progress
feature-wise and increase its bug list, was frustrating. How they managed
to surivive this long I guess is simply because their feature list
outshines ProPage. However, it's reputation forces people who have 'must
get done' type work to use ProPage instead.
On PD software, I understand that people without modems don't have the
accessibility to software that I do, but the potential for access to anyone
with the computer and phone line exists. It is simply a matter of someone
without a modem grabbing the bull by the horns and getting one.
I realize that many people out there are scared of modems, they have no
idea where to start, how to use one, or where to call. Maybe it's time for
the major mags to do a serious writeup about getting online again.
You just switched to 2.0 only a week ago? Hmm. Interesting. I've had it
ever since I got my first 3000 (months before the machine was released) and
I've never had any software problems that I can recall that were 2.0
related. It's been pretty solid in that sense since beta.
