I have been using, on an IBM-compatible computer, Harvard Graphics for Windows and Corel Draw. They both have screenshows and the ability to insert sound in the slides. Harvard now has a video player, and Corel has animation files. This is partly what I mean by multimedia. My problem is that (a) the 3D extrusions in Corel are very slow to draw on screen (I have a 486, 33Mhz, 16MG RAM!); (b) the graphics take up huge amounts of disk space (four or five slides with heavy graphics take up 500K to 1MG); (c) a screenshow can easily take up from 3 to 12 MG of disk space, which either slows down the functioning of the show, or halts it; (d) the tansition time betweeen slides is quite slow where heavy graphics are involved. I would like to integrate sound and video into these screenshows. I am torn between adding sound and video to the screenshows (as Harvard will now do in an awkward fashion), or exporting the slides into video, and doing all sorts of wipes, animations and 3Ds with them. It would be nice to control the video so that I can fast forward/rewind and freeze frames for the public presentations I do. I just stumbled on the discovery of Video Toaster, and thought it might do the trick. Now I am not so sure. I just got off the phone with a Video Toaster user who told me that VT does not do a very good job producing video. In addition, I realize that I would have to buy other software to do multimedia with video toaster. So, do I go with VT and the Amiga, or do I stick with the PC, or go over to the MAC? My problem may partly be solved by developing technology — the local bus technology, and 32-bit video cards. NEC has a notebook that claims this. I would also like to do morphing. I understand that Black Belt has a morph for PC Windows. But from my experience with morphing on Corel (blends), it will problably bring my PC to a halt. I have never used an Amiga or VT before, so I would have to hold my nose and jump and hope you guys will save me when I start to drown. Getting more confused all the time! Carl.
