I would especially agree with you about the word processors. I still use
WordPerfect on the Amiga (and WP5.1 on my Toshiba, mostly for
compatibility) because it is the only one with the heavy-duty features I
need. A word processor without good footnote-endnote handling, table of
contents, and index is of little use if you need to do more than a few
letters and such.
