#Ideal PC for 3DS Rel.3
I was at the NAB show and noted that Autodesk now uses Micron computers
as their "official PC." I'm a fan of Micron and live in Boise, home
town for the company. I wondered what the basic configuration of the
machines you use in the show might be? (processor, RAM, hard drive
size, display cards, etc.)
We currently use 3-D Studio Rel. 3 on a Compaq 486-50 w/ 16 meg of RAM,
a 500 MB drive, an older ATI VGA Wonder S-VGA card as well as a
Targa +64 card. The system is used in conjunction with a
professional-grade (3/4" SP, S-VHS, and soon – Betacam, possibly
Digital Betacam) video suite.
We're looking to upgrade with a new PC as well as some of its
components. What would you call the "ideal" system as a platform
for 3DS Rel. 3. Should we be looking at a Pentium-based system or
would we be better off with a 486-DX4-100MHz machine? d
