Jeff, I have an early model A3000-25 as well and when I upgraded to OS3.1 I had to install the ROMs on the ROM Tower and re-install the tower from whence it came. When you remove the tower you will notice that the two rom sockets are labelled U180 and U181. Install the OS3.1 ROMs as follows: 3000-1 in Tower ROM socket U180 3000-0 in Tower ROM socket U181 Re-install the tower on the mother board in the same location you removed it from; U182 and U183. I did not change the jumpers J180 and J181. Two weeks ago after installing some more ram I noticed in the A3000 service manual the info about A2000 and A3000 ROMs and jumpers J180 and J181. I proceeded to remove the OS3.1 ROMs from the tower and installed them on the motherboard in sockets U180 and U181; I then connected pins 2-3 of jumpers J180 and J181 as mentioned in the manual. When I restarted the computer, there was no boot-up. I returned the OS3.1 ROMs to the tower and the jumpers back to 1-2 and everthing is working fine once again. I hope this helps; I have no explaination why the OS3.1 ROMs won't work on the motherboard on my machine and my service tech thinks that I should just leave well enough alone.
