David, you may want to wait as DPS is close to releasing a new PAR. It's called
Perception Video Recorder and it uses any SCSI2 hard drive. It also has much
better output thanks to it's 10-bit video encoding. It will allow cuts-only
editing on the fly from the interface with non-destructive editing of
animations. The real kicker is it probably won't be much more than PAR. Another
thing to note is that the video-capture board for it will take YC,composite and
COMPONENT(!) video inputs. This will allow for near-lossless video capture from
a Betacam or MII video deck. I think they are planning to show it at NAB if
