<< You and I both write for magazines. >> No, we don't. I've written 1 3D-related article in my life, and as a favor. << Simply put, if you don't agree with me, that's OK. >> Agree with what ? We're talking about 2 different things. I'm talking about a typical system *capable* of producing the *majority* of the 3DS-related work out there. I'm also basing my list on being frugal and creative wrt working with less than a "dream" system. Personally, *I* don't need a PAR because I have a dedicated component recorder with a 1.5 second frame cycle time….it looks *a lot* better than a JPEG recorder, and is fast enough. Someone else may not have either, yet they manage to produce and sell work. If you like working with Animation Master, a PAR, etc…..fine…..But that's not the point, …..or my point anyway. Hey, if you want a gigabyte of RAM and terabytes of storage…..fine, then add whatever parts to *both* systems. Are you saying that RAM or mass storage is *less expensive* on the SGI platform ? ….I don't think so. So, I restate: Equipping an SGI system with the capability of producing content similar to that on my PC/3DS list will cost you a *lot* more. Period. End of my point. << Exabite tapes are for scenes with 600 to 1500 frames. >> I have put 1500+ video-res frames on 4-350's several times. $50-60, and you can use 'em over & over. $150 for the drive. Big deal. You wanna' spend the money on the exabyte, that's fine. Just add it to the SGI column as well. << Post production houses in Hollywood don't like to deal with 350 meg tapes. >> Most people, including me, don't live in Hollywood. << My interest is in professional graphics for the motion picture industry. Is your's the same? If so, what films are you working on? >> Give me a f*.* break! So, are you implying that someone is more talented or creative because they work on motion pictures ? The best animation I have seen did *not* come from motion picture work (animated features excluded). And, I've seen a *lot* of garbage in motion pictures. << I am working on Virtuosity, and I just finished Batman III. I have worked on 45 motion pictures. >> So what ? BTW, what *specifically* did you do for those films ? I'll make sure to see them and look for your work. Am I supposed to come back at you with a list of my accomplishments ? ….I've been around. Personally, I cherish anonymity, and I don't have an ego problem. BILL
