I'm not sure that there IS any diferance. We are hoping to make our group
100% NAAUG membership. We are just promoting a little more contact between
groups. Some ideas have been a national newsletter with news from all
groups and a yearly reel showing the best of each group which would be
voted on by each individual group then compiled and edited into one reel.
I would like to see a stronger support in MultiMedia by NAAUG like posibly
having a video wall at events like Siggraph and Autodesk U where people
could come and sit down and watch different submissions from all the
groups. Not to undermind Autodesks' annual reel but have time to show
all the yearly reels from all the groups. Kind of like the Asoft party
at Sig'94 where anyone with the guts can step up to the pump and show
their stuff. Anyway, I really wasn't suggesting that our group was THAT
much different, only in that we are taking a much more active roll in
getting the support out to the users. The other difference is that we
are trying to be open minded in the fact that most 3DSers' use other
software in chorus with 3D Studio to get the job done. We want to bring
those issues to the table as well by not making it an exclusive club for
3DS only, i.e. 3DA&A instead of 3DS u.g. You would be surprised what a
person who has only used Photoshop might have to offer or what a person
who has worked several years as a cell animator might offer. We hope to
get all these people out and to the table to share their experience and
to draw upon the experiences of others. Another service we have provided
some of the vendors is showing full production style demos of their
products to the groups. As a result those vendors save money in their
own promotion and the street level users get a better understanding in
the form of a hands-on demo of exactly what the newest software will do.
Hope this helped clear things up.
