HI steve, it isn't that difficult to set AmiTCP up. I knew NOTHING about it but anyhow I got it working. Get AmiTCP 4.0, PPP 1.30 and AMosaic1.2. Start the Installer. It asks for the default user which I answered with Jochen. The script then sets this user up, asks for realname password… Then come the important things: It asks wether your connection is dynamic, answer with yes. Enter Your Domain name: compuserve.com Select the network interface type to be used: PPP Select the network interface to be used: PPP … a default IP address for the interface ppp0 … : 0.0.0.0 Give the destination address for the point-to-point interface ppp0: 149.174.64.25 Bypass the networkmask by giving an emptystring This is the information you gave for this interface: Interface: ppp0 Interface address: 0.0.0.0 Destination address: 149.174.64.25 Netmask: <use default> Is this correct? YES Enter the IP address of the default gateway: 149.174.64.25 Enter the IP addresses of the name servers: 149.174.64.41 <- Important! This question comes again then. Give an emptystring. You don't need any SANAII drivers to install by this script (see below). Unarchive PPP1_30.lha. There are two versions of ppp.device for different CPU's. The serialrate of 19200bps is enough since CIS supports speeds up to 14400 without datacompression. I for myself have the Goldfish2 CD with MUI installed. After starting the net (see below) I simply start the AmiTCP-version by doubleclicking the Icon (I only copied the executable to HD, MUI runs from CD) Starting the NET: I don't use a dialupscript because in 8bit mode the CIS hostname and User-ID messages are garbled. Instead I cd to amitcp:bin Then I start a small terminal: HFT, it opens a window on Workbench needs not much memory… I only have to set baudrate to 19200 manually. Your modem must have AT&D0 set, so it stays off hook after loosing DTR signal. Dial CIS: CONNECT19200/V32.bis 14400/V42 <RETURN> (The following is garbled, so type blind) Host Name: CIS <RETURN> User ID: <Your ID>/GO:PPPCONNECT — forexample 73064,3302/GO:PPPCONNECT password: <guess what> You have left basic services… At this point You leave the terminal (quit it). type at the shellprompt: execute startnet (if you set the s-bit You need the execute not) Thats it! If everything goes right PPP makes a connection. Then comes the AmiTCP-Demo window with some licencetext which you can leave after 5 secs or so. The last output comes from the addroute commands and a few seconds later (maybe 15 or so) the shell prompt comes back! Now You should be part of Internet. At this point I have no problems with Telnet or Mosaic. Only FTP seems to make trouble. NcFTP brings a message about HOSTNAME and that I should recompile it with HOSTNAME definded??? Maybe some experienced Internet guy can help here?? Normal FTP from Aminet4-CD connects but mostly says then remote host quits connection. The command was for 2.x, maybe it has trouble with AmiTCP 4.0 ?? But You wanted WWW, now You have it. —————————————- If there are some mistakes in this text I would be happy if someone corrects me.
