Who says you have to?? As your online message reading skill grows you will
doubtless learn to breeze right past quotes that you do not need. If this
communication was vocal and folks quoted quotes you'd have little choice but to
listen through it if you wished to remain in the conversation. But since the
messages are written skilled readers can quickly scan to the dialog that they
await (if any).
Now, how long did it take you to grasp the quote at the beginning of this
note? If you read it word for word and considered it likewise you are indeed in
trouble <g>. Other readers, though, may need to read more carefully in order to
understand my message. Also, without the quote I'd likely have spend just as
many words establishing what my response was aimed at.
