Paul, 1) I have Caligari. It was loadedon my mcahine for a week wehn I got it back in Mar of 1992. It was so wimpy (no IFF mapping, no deform….) and I didn't want to fork over big bucks for the broadcast version so, there it sits, in its box collecting dust. I think you misunderstood. On the '030, the FP lightwave runs faster than on the '040. If I use the Integer LW with the 040 I can run as fast as the '030 did with the FP version. Bottom line – except for meanial tasks likes reading/writing disk files (low frequency task in rendering) your '040 is only as fast as or a little slower than your '030 card clocked at the same speed. WHy? I suspect the '040.library, which I now realize is CBMs – no need to say more. As for the new LW, I've now got seversl sources who independently tell me that I will see about a 30% increase in rendering speed with the '040 over what I get now. WHich in my system translates to rendering as fast as the '030 in FP mode again. I go back to my statement that the '040 architecture is not suited to graphics work (what I wanted the speed increase for) and I would recommend that people doing graphic/3D/Video work think loong and hard about '040 for that type of work. And at this point I think I might even advise that they get a Zues as they would be able to get more freely available and cheaper memory for it, its cheaper, and I've been told (though no onw has offered tests to prove it) that it runs rings around the G-Force (but then I was told the G-FOrce would give 2x-10x increase in rendering time so…). I'm not trying to be nasty, its just that the serial port doesn't work with the only term program I use most every day, the cpu does not offer any speed enhancement for animations without kludges and then it comes UP TO the speed of a '030 or on a simple scene can sometimes get 20% better on slected frames. It really didn't turnout the obe worth the $1000 and 4 days of install/deinstall/reinstall/reconfigure to get it working reasonably well in my system. 2) Good!! Thanks! I hope Steve is able to nail this puppy. It must be something subtle, but pervasive and I don't think he could find it even if he tried unless he gets some HW to check it out on. I appreciate your efforts in this matter, but I think it is a combination of me using a hammer for a screwdriver after listening to wild calims of the hammer vendor. '040 with CBM's lib is just not a suitable cpu for graphics. wmc – via Autopilot!
