Brad, Try using the ring in the sparkle texture (formerly lens flare). This takes careful placement and is by no means an easy solution, but can provide the effect you desire. I used thes trick to create the 'ring' for the 'diamond ring' effect in the eclipse in the Impulse library here. You might also try nesting spheres of slightly different radii and applying successively higher filter values as you move outward. If you make the sun lightsrc non shadow casting, and place it correctly, the sun will shine on the underside of some of the spheres and create the look of clouds lit from below (sorta). To see an easy demo, place the planet and source so the terminator (border between light and dark) faces the viewpoint, and render in scanline mode. You'll see a limb on the far side of the planet where the light shines on the inside of the spheres. -Steve
