Gayle, Well, the "similarities" sound as if this animation was based on the one you produced. However, if the college owned the copyright, then they could certainly allow its use, and I don't think they need credit anyone. You should definitely find out if the college gave permission. Otherwise, I'd say you might want to ask the credited illustrator what the origin of the animation was. However, because you do not hold a copyright, you are in the position (as per my lawyer) of "not having a dog in that fight."
