I have seen this happen for years in the CADD world, and been a victim right up to construction documents using fonts and block libraries which were never released within our company. Software litigation has a long way to go… no doubt. I find myself seeing a lot of "recycling" and plagerism these days. I recently saw a Bud (beer) commercial with the infamous 3D Studio building leaning over to open the beer bottle cap. (Well, I guess someone threw this together fast). Not too long ago, (if you're an AutoCAD user you'll probably get a real chuckle out of this one) I saw this bank commercial… "You're on the move. You can't slow down. You need a bank that can keep up with you… blah blah blah…" The script continues with its aggressive b.s., and they show this yuppie-computer geek staring at a computer screen furiously working on some kind of cadd drawing… as the camera pans around, we see NOZZLE.DWG, one of the oldest demo drawings shipped with AutoCAD. Even my wife, a dedicated sworn-to-never-get-into-AutoCAD-stuff fanatic started laughing. Laziness will prevail, in production and broadcasting. I have no suggestions other than what I do myself: I make sure my images have a signature, that prize meshworks and techniques are not distributed without payment, and that my clients understand what copywrite is all about. Here's another similar issue gayle, one many will recognize here. You think it's bad with images… look at music. I can't tell you how many tv and radio commercials I've heard with Lee Ritenour's or Spyrogyra's music used in the background by local stations… no way did they pay for royalties. And with the continuing trend of 3DS presentations, I'm seeing a lot of people using their favorite music selections and using them behind their images… not cool… worse yet, not legal. There's a reason why musical libraries exist. Wouldn't it be great to get a lawyer on this forum to talk about the no no's of production and distribution? Wouldn't it?
