To All,
I really think everyone here is missing the real point. Stop and think
for a minute about what it was that made the Amiga different from all
other systems out there. Was it the Zorro bus? How about the display?
Maybe the Agnus? … I don't think so. Everyone of those pieces is simply
hardware that is really rather well understood, and pretty simple to
duplicate. It's even possible and cheaper to better any one of those
pieces.
The one thing that really _made_ the Amiga different, made it something
other than just another box full of chips, is the Operating System!
Anybody in 'Amigaland' more than passingly familiar with the entire
system, really consider what it was that made the Amiga special. And also
consider the amount of effort that was expended developing the operating
system to the point it is today.
In all honesty, the actual hardware is rather dated. Even AGA was
simply a stopgap measure to allow the Amiga to catchup with the PC worlds
capabilitys as of 18 months ago, and believe me, the PC world hasn't
stopped its headlong rush to improve upon what it has in the way of
hardware capabilities.
If somehow someone manages to buy the chipset, they will probably be
doing so to provide specific features they need. Newtek, or someone else
who needs to display directly on television sets are the only real
suitors. In my opinion, the OS is the more important piece by far!
