The Amiga hardware is not dated…. the Zorro III bus is still the fastest 32 bit bus available for any machine (PCI is faster, but 64 bits). Even Apple's new NuBus standard is still 20Mhz and sycronous, compared to the Z3's 25Mhz asyncronous bus. We have a blitter built in… granted, some video controllers do have blitters also, but they are much more limited in their functionality (as you must known since you are making the Talon video board). We have display list interrupts (copper)… no video board I have seen can reproduce this well enough to even be considered an emulation of the Amiga's copper. We have PAULA (ability to read/write RAW GCR and MFM data)… although PAULA could use some help in the bit clocking department to get rid of the need for 150RPM drives. Paula also still has remarkably good sound being equiv to the SoundBlaster Pro. There are a lot of great hardware features (like NTSC video output built in) that set the Amiga apart. Updating this technology to conform with what is now becoming available is important.. but *today* the Amiga holds it's own nicely. I agree that the OS is one of a kind, and I seriously doubt if that type of magic will appear ever again on any platform…
