I've seen lots of PC 'SCSI' CDROM drives that have 40 pin connectors on
both the drive & the 'SCSI' controller card that comes with it. If you
want to use the drive with a normal SCSI controller you have to buy a
special adapter cable that goes from 40 pin to 50 pin. Of course this
cable is an extra cost option. It's truly amazing on the PC how many
companies expect you to have no more than 1 device per SCSI controller in
the machine. Nikon's coolscan slide scanner is only certified to work with
their proprietary SCSI controller, and is supposed to be the only device
hooked to that controller. Of course the Mac version of the same scanner
is just hooked to the Mac's SCSI port like any other device would be. Oh,
and the device used in this example doesn't work with the Amiga's SCSI
according to Nikon.
