That Barracuda drive is pretty impressive. Right about that! The demo they had certainly didn't do the technology any justice. Its a good thing DPS was not present with the PAR or Matrox would have been embarrased. The big deal at the show was the Power PC but at this point in time it was more of a collection of fancy marketing phrases than actual impressive demos. Words like "power" and multi platform compatibility seem to impress some more than reality. <g> MS chicago was shown at the show but I was disappointed in that as well. Most of the demo was geared to a new way to launch apps in windows with a start button. Pentium 90 was all over and running flawlessly. DEC alpha was just a repeat of last year's demo and is still waiting on NT to come of age. The DX4 looks the most promising for me but it will require new MB's or an adapter for the lower voltage. Maybe Intel will surprise us with a 5V version of the DX4. Or, better yet the p24T, finally. The biggest surprises of the show were the mergers. Aldus being bought up by Adobe. Wordperfect with Novell. Aldus was not even at the show and the Adobe people were not saying much. Wordperfect had the biggest presentation to announce the Novell-WP marriage. Corel was also not present. In summary, I would tag this years show as "MORE OF THE SAME" more of the same hardware, software, and vaporware. More vendors were taking orders now for vaporware than in years before. Scarry! Looking forward to SIGGRAPH. Hoping this show will be more reality.
