While I agree that seeing this type of product being displayed at
Comdex/windows world was quite a shock, especially at the open graphic demos of
the content. I also feel that this is a part of the whole computer industry
and was represented in proper proportion. As far as the male/female thing is
concerned I disagree with you totally for this reason. I believe that if it
were men exploiting women then you'd be right but in the cases of these vendors
they were being run, managed and entrepreneured by women, not men. If anything
this was a case of women denegrating men and women as both sexes were
represented in the collection of CDs displayed. My own opinion is that I find
nothing wrong with the product, the business (in theory), nor the people that
wish to be involved in this aspect of the industry. I do find the display of
the product in open public in poor taste at the Comdex show and blame the
Comdex for the way it was displayed. I've recently taken on some editing jobs
for adult content video with the understanding that these products are only to
be shown to those that want to see them. I, too, would be very vocal and
protest if these products were openly displayed in public as the Comdex event
even though they are far less risque than most of what we see on even network
TV today. I'm a firm believer in free market but one should not have
embarrassing products shoved in his face unless he asked for it.
