I doubt your modem supports class 3 as it isn't even out of committee yet as a standard and I doubt it ever will. You probably mean Group III which described the T.x methods in communication between fax devices (not just modems). Most modems are either class 1 or 2 or both which describes the extended AT command set for fax. With faxing, make sure that your gender changer passes through ALL pins and that your other cable is a h/w handshaking cable with at least the basic 7 wires passed through.
