I used to think desktops were getting close to workstations and the line was blurred. I don't any more. My current theory is thus: The boxes that are many times as fast today and cost many times more today are workstations. Workstations become obsolete every year, and desktops are often as fast as workstations a few years old. They don't come anywhere close to current workstations. Desktops remain suited to the purposes they were purchased for over years.
