well, Bob, 3-DS is my principal application and animation is all I do.

I wear too many hats, I envy you as you get to do only the fun stuff.
A dual-boot mode could get you running NT ahead of 3DS R5. I'm going to get my
feet wet before R5. FWIW, I haven't yet heard of an NT compatible software
package which was not compiled for the Alpha chip. The versions don't always
ship on the same day but it would be an absolute shock if R5 didn't get
compiled for the Alpha. Actually, its completely inconceivable.
The P6 will be quick (2x the p5 100, right?) but when will it come to market?
Will it have P5 like math errors? A possible strategy for you is one that Ana
suggested a while back. You could get a dual processor motherboard version of
the DEC Celebris. It would come to you now with one P5 100 (maybe 120?) chip
with the option of adding another P5 chip or swapping for a single DEC Alpha
chip. This would fulfill your immediate need and give you an upgrade path for
the future. Note that the Alpha upgrade chip will cost +/- $2,500 — not cheap.
