Why pay $80,000 for AVID Media Composer software (yes a small percentage of that is hardware, but the point remains valid) when you can buy Premiere for $800? The answer is the work environment. If your an editor making a living with an editing product, time and facility is everything. The ability to make cuts VERY fast, trim edits easily, have good audio control, use keyboard shortcuts, see your clips quickly, not wait to make a movie, and to have you main tools all in the right place where you expect them is probably worth the money. AVID seems to be doing pretty well. That is not at all to say that Premiere doesn't give you a whole lot of good stuff. It's an excellent product and is probably the right product if those differences in work environment aren't important . D-Vision, AVID, Data Translation, or others also have good products for different users. It is cliche to talk about Hondas, Chevys, Ferraris, and Mercedez, but it is true that they serve different needs. Jeff Sauer Desktop Video Group
