I *think* the answer has to do w/the difference between "component" and
"composite" resolution, keeping in mind that most broadcast and home use
equipment can only see composite images. The superior image of component
resolution can *only* be seen on all-component equipment, which most folks
don't have, whereas 3/4", even though it has a lower horizontal resolution than
either S-VHS or Hi8, has a higher composite resolution (320 lines, I think, as
opposed to 240).
