Yes, the 8100's are in short supply — a critical part was made in
Kobe, Japan and is now offline due to the quake. Word is that this
shortage will probably last until June.
I'm lucky to have gotten a 8100/110 the day after Christmas (direct
from Apple since I am an Apple Partner). The Media 100 works very
nicely in it.
Not sure of the best alternatives right now, but I suggest you call
Data Translation directly to find out. You might also post this
question over on BPFORUM, which has quite a few Media 100 (and Avid)
users.
